About us
Take time and enjoy the coffee
Our origin
The Grade 1 Arabica beans are sourced directly from the lush mountain slopes of the Shire Highlands of Malawi. The growing of the beans was once the task of Origin Coffee’s director, Roger Sheppard, who once held the responsibility of creating plantations for 200 hectares of irrigated coffee.
From working with global corporations such as the Commonwealth Development Corporation and Unilever, running five estates producing approximately 800 tonnes of coffee per annum, to then becoming managing director and major shareholder of his own coffee plantation, it was only a matter of time when Roger immigrated to New Zealand, he would turn his hand to the other side of the ever expanding coffee industry.
Origin today
In 1998 Origin Coffee was born and to this day, Roger is the go-to man for any coffee needs. Whether it be coffee for home, cafes, businesses, events, barista training (NZQA), or machinery, Origin Coffee has it all.
There is even a small espresso bar in the railway station where you can sip on a coffee of your choice while you get the true coffee experience of the green bean being meticulously roasted and mixed before your very own eyes.
Origin Coffee’s credentials are unique in New Zealand with experience in growing, roasting and marketing the aromatic 100% arabica coffee. Hence the name and promise:
‘Origin- We know our coffee from plant to cup’.
